Why 'A descent into Madness?'

Well, for many reasons. I think all creative people constantly teeter on the edge of madness, dancing on the edge of a cliff with their own 'black dog' snapping away at their heels. Many creative people experience the euphoria of creation and the dark pit that lies in wait between these peaks.

I also wanted to make this a rather personal blog of my own thoughts and a record of the journey that I am now on. Over the past few months I have been doing a lot of thinking, a lot of reading and a lot of (for want of a better term) experiments with my own mind.

Through experimenting, I have had something of a personal awakening. This awakening that I speak of contains me, it is not in me. I sense that there is something happening. A wave of awareness that is sweeping through humanity in these very dark times.

There are two contradictory forces at work I feel. On the political front, I have begun to understand what mechanisms are at work behind the facade of the traditional political systems; structures that we are led to believe form the policies that oppress us. In this field, there are a lot of people more eloquent and certainly more brave than I, so this task is better in their hands. However, we do not need to look far to see that something is coming to a head in world politics. If we are ignorant of it, and by this I mean of it's true causes, we will be swept away. Yet, if we are politically enlightened, we will have the power and vision to help create a world where love replaces violence and sharing replaces greed. In short, the world that I would hope we, as sane people would want to live in. I must point out here that I am not talking in terms of traditional politics, as traditional politics are entirely irrelevant to this. Smoke and mirrors.

On the other hand, there is a great metaphysical awakening too. People are become far more spiritually aware. Caution here too - I am not talking in terms of any organised religious system. They are as irrelevant to spirituality as the mainstream politicians are to the greater plan of world events.
There is something deeper happening. I remember something similar in the late sixties and early seventies (before it was appropriates and assimilated). At that time there were some great thinkers certainly, but there was a real feeling of groping around in the dark, looking for something. Now I see a far more profound understanding of the deeper structures of being. A coherent philosophy and genuine spiritual awakening. So I am not talking about any vague 'new age' mysticism here (although we need to be cautious of how language is appropriated and used to structure our opinions). I am talking of a depth of understanding that some people have that I find utterly staggering.

For me, this understanding is being expressed through Quantum Physics, sacred number and geometry, as well as the traditional knowledge of civilisations from the dawn of time. We are also facing a real paradigm shift in our understanding of history, I believe.

Over all, I think we are being led towards the greatest paradigm shift in history. Either through global destruction, or through global enlightenment. Personally, I have no idea which will prevail.

Things look grim in the world, and the closer you look and the more critical thinking you apply, the grimmer it looks. Yet pessimism and fatality lower the energy of the overall system and contribute to it. The dreams we dream today, we live tomorrow. So we need to turn our backs on the blackness - not to deny or disregard it - but to be sure that we do not add our own hate and negativity to the existing pool.

I call myself a 'magician' and many of those reading this will apply the same description to themselves. I think that magic has a role to play in all of this. Yet, are we being magicians by pretending to read someone's mind or in rehashing the same old tired 'tricks'? Well, to some extent, yes we are, as entertainment is a positive energy and it gives positive energy to the greater system.

...but could we not be doing more?

So faced with these enormous questions, in the context of a world experiencing enormous events - the path ahead is far from clear.

...and sanity is by no means guaranteed!
